A Celebratory Wine & Dine

One should always give themselves a reason to celebrate. It is easy to get lost in our every day duties and completely take for granted our accomplishments, no matter how big or how small. We must not forget that purely waking up in the morning every day is a celebration in itself. There are days where I do not leave my office desk, from the moment I open my computer in the morning, to sometimes 2:00 or 3:00 AM. When you’re self-employed, there is always something you can be doing to better your business. Sometimes I don’t even give myself a weekend or even the time of day to prepare a good meal! This is why when I give myself a night out, especially when in New York, I always ensure I do it right. That is why I decided to head down to the beautiful part of lower Manhattan and straight to the Conrad Hotel for a little fine dining.

There’s something a bit refreshing about walking into the Conrad, and it’s not just their delicious cocktails. When you walk in and go up the escalator, you’re greeted by a large, clean, minimally designed lobby, with the Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant just off to your right. The most stressful part about being at the Atrio is probably maintaining some level of self control and not ordering everything off the menu. From their seafood delicacies to their cocktail creations, everything is so carefully crafted and so beautifully presented. As a pescatarian, I am very particular about the seafood I eat, and I must say the Wild Branzino did everything but disappoint. Even Allison’s hanger steak with patatas bravas, there was no denying that every bite was delicious. We were so full when it came time for dessert, so we kept it simple with their beautiful chocolate covered strawberries. However, the Crème Brûlée with pistachio and wild ginger is an absolute must, and I mean a must.

After dinner, Allison and I couldn’t help but go to the rooftop for one last celebratory drink, and not just any celebratory drink – Upstairs at the Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar are the famous Ice Pops that are doused in your choice of either Rosécco or Prosecco. You have 5 different options for your Ice Pop ; I had the Blackberry Gimlet which consists of Citadel gin (I love my gin), blackberry and lime, and Allison had the Raspberry Basil Smash with Flor De Caña white rum, raspberry, apple and basil. These drinks are SO tasty, and with views of the Hudson River, Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor, it is no wonder why you never want the celebration to end at the Conrad.

Like I said, it is so important to take the time needed for yourself, to treat yourself, acknowledge all your hard work and accomplishments and to give yourself a toast. For me, it is too easy to get lost in it all,  and forget that I am an individual too and not just a business. So I thank you, Conrad Hotel, for letting me put Simply Jules to the side for a night and for letting me celebrate Julia.
